SANTA CRUZ — Today Santa Cruz Vice Mayor David Terrazas awarded over $32,500 on behalf of the City of Santa Cruz and the Downtown Association's Parking for Hope Program to Hope Services, a local nonprofit.
The funds were collected from Dec. 18 through 25 in the third annual Parking for Hope downtown holiday parking program. The usual parking rates applied, however, the proceeds from street meters during these eight days were designated for donation to Hope Services, a Santa Cruz nonprofit that provides training and support services to adults with developmental disabilities and has helped to keep downtown streets clean for over 20 years.
The 2016 program brought about $2,500 more in funds to Hope Services than the 2015 program. Meter revenue totaled $23,808 and revenue paid through the Parkmobile pay-by-APP service totaled $8,745. A check for over $32,500 was accepted today by Hope Services workers and staff including Program Coordinator David Guarente.
“Hope Services is extremely grateful for the increase in funds,” said Santa Cruz Hope Services Program Manager Sheryl Hagemann. This says so much about the generosity of the people of Santa Cruz and will support our workers to keep our downtown clean, diverse and welcoming.”
