SANTA CRUZ – The City of Santa Cruz invites the community to four Bike Share program drop-in events from Oct. 4 through Oct. 8 when residents may learn more, see a bike, and share ideas about where bike share stations should be placed within Santa Cruz.
Bike Share is a partnership between the City of Santa Cruz and Social Bicycles launching in March 2018 that will provide 250 on-demand 8-speed bicycles for use by Santa Cruz residents and visitors. Bike Share will provide affordable short-term bike rentals for quick trips within City limits and brings a new transportation option to the community.
Bike Share outreach events are planned as follows in Santa Cruz: Oct. 4 at Gault Elementary School, 1320 Seabright Ave., 6–8 pm.; Oct. 5 at the Bike to Work Downtown Breakfast on Pacific Avenue, 6:30–9:30 a.m., and Bay View Elementary School, 1231 Bay St., 5:30–7:30 p.m.; and Oct. 8 at the Open Streets City of Santa Cruz booth, West Cliff Drive near Fair Avenue, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
Bike Share is part of the Go Santa Cruz initiative – the City’s ongoing effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and play an active role in addressing the issue of climate change. Go Santa Cruz promotes numerous transportation options within the City of Santa Cruz and encourages residents to try biking, walking, carpooling and transit for their daily trips. Go Santa Cruz includes the City’s ongoing work to expand bike and pedestrian facilities and also provides education and encouragement, increases transportation options and leverages partnerships with other transportation agencies.
The new City of Santa Cruz Bike Share program which launches in spring of 2018 is part of the Go Santa Cruz initiative.
