July Is Parks Make Life Better Month! To celebrate, the City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring tons of FREE activities throughout the month. Check out the wide range of fun available to the Santa Cruz community this July! All event information is available at santacruzparksandrec.com

Perfect for Beach Lovers: 

Teen Glow-in-the-Dark Beach Volleyball: Friday July 6, 8pm-10pm. Games and volleyball activities led by Santa Cruz Teen Center staff. Music, glow accessories, refreshments and fun provided for teens only. Volleyball courts are closest to Ideal Grill.

Movies on the Beach: Wednesdays, (July 11, 18, 25) 9pm. These movie nights are a classic summer event in Santa Cruz. Movie titles available here: https://beachboardwalk.com/movies

Dry Land Learn To Surf Clinic: Friday July 6, 4pm-5pm with Club Ed Surf School at Cowell’s Beach. All ages welcome to come learn surfing fundamentals. Meet at the blue Club Ed trailer to the right of the Wharf; email or call to reserve your spot!

Dry Land Stand-Up Paddle Clinic: Sunday July 8, 9:00am with SUP Shack at the Santa Cruz Harbor. Please call to reserve your spot! 831-464-7467

Friday Night Recess
Friday July 6, 5pm – 9pm. Cooper Street in Downtown Santa Cruz will be closed down for an all-ages playground featuring dodgeball, giant volleyball, badminton, cornhole, and pop-up playground. Dancing in the streets with DJ Sparkle all evening.

Recreation Swim Day: Sunday July 8, 12pm-3pm at Harvey West Pool

Wacky Water Day: Saturday July 14, 1pm-3pm at Laurel Park and Louden Nelson Community Center. Water games, dunk tank, face painting, popcorn and more! All the carnival fun, none of the carnival costs!

Food Trucks: Friday July 27, 5pm-8pm at San Lorenzo Park featuring a wide variety of food options, FOPAR beer and wine garden, summer camp staff-led games and activities for kids, discounted P&R merchandise and more!

Family Fun Day: Saturday July 28, 3 pm – 7pm. Join us for inflatable obstacle courses, oversized board games, food trucks and free swimming at Simpkins Family Swim Center. Kids will love water slide, stand-up paddleboards and climbing wall in the water!

 

Perfect for History & Nature Lovers:

 

Walking Adventure Group: Thursday July 19, 9:30am-11:30am Walk along the San Lorenzo Riverwalk and learn about the river ecosystem. Enjoy a nice walk with the Downtown Seniors WAG and the Coastal Watershed Council.

Civic Open House: Friday July 6, 5pm-8pm. This event will include staff-led tours of the Civic, historical presentations and future plans for the Civic as well as refreshments.

Downtown Significant Tree Walk: Saturday July 21, 9am-12pm with Leslie Keedy, certified arborist and Urban Forester. This walk will highlight significant trees in the downtown area. Meet at City Hall between City Council Chambers and the library. All ages!
 

Perfect for Friendly Competition:

Twilight Lawn Bowling: Wednesdays, 5:30pm-7pm (July 11, 18, 25) at The Lawn Bowling Green at San Lorenzo Park. Equipment provided, please wear flat soled shoes.

Ping Pong Club: Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays 9am-12pm (July 9, 11, 13) at Depot Park Freight Building. All levels of play welcome, professional-grade tables!

Softball Home Run Derby: Saturday July 21, 1pm – 3pm. Calling all sluggers! Knock it out of the park at the first annual Home Run Derby at Delaveaga Park. Food trucks for your fans.
