SANTA CRUZ — The City of Santa Cruz is scheduled to begin the Bay and King Streets Protected Left Turns and Streetlights Project on Monday, Nov. 26. The project will install five streetlights on Bay Street between Escalona Drive and King Street. It will also install two traffic signal poles (for new left-turn arrows) and three new corner curb ramps at the Bay/King intersection.

Construction hours are from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays. Two-way traffic will remain in place, however, there may be delays due to construction activity. Parking, bike lanes and pedestrian access around the construction area will be affected.

All work will be performed by contractor St. Francis Electric and is estimated to be completed in early February.

The Bay and King Streets Protected Left Turns and Streetlights Project is fully funded through a Highway Safety Improvement Program Cycle 7 grant at an approximate cost of $315,000.

This project will help to make walking and bicycling safer as identified in the City’s Active Transportation Plan.  It will also help the City achieve the objectives of the General Plan 2030 and the Climate Action Plan by supporting multimodal mobility.

The City apologizes for any inconvenience this construction work may cause and appreciates the public’s cooperation.  Any concerns or questions may be addressed to Project Manager Dan Estranero at (831) 420-5189 or destranero@cityofsantacruz.com.
