WATER MAIN CONSTRUCTION ON WATER STREET
Santa Cruz (May 8, 2019) – The City of Santa Cruz Water Department will undertake a significant main replacement project on Water Street. Construction will take place from mid-May 2019 through January 2020 between the Water Street Bridge and Reed Way; on part of Ocean Street at the Water Street intersection; and on part of May Avenue.
Work will take place Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00am and 3:30pm, excluding holidays. Work at the Water and Ocean Streets intersection will occur at night to minimize traffic impacts. Those hours will be between 7:30pm and 6:00am.
Every attempt will be made to keep the construction disturbance to a minimum. There may be traffic delays, restricted street parking, and increased noise during construction hours. Access to residence and business driveways will be maintained throughout the project.
The Santa Cruz Water Department serves water to 96,000 customers, processes 6-8 million gallons of water per day, manages 4,000 acres of watershed lands, oversees 300 miles of distribution lines, runs a state-certified water quality laboratory, and provides summertime recreation activities at the Loch Lomond Reservoir and Recreation Area.
