SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — The City of Santa Cruz’s GO Santa Cruz program today announced its Fall in Love with Carpooling Challenge for the month of February. Through the challenge, downtown commuters can participate in carpooling to earn Downtown Dollars and program points, and enter for a chance to win a downtown date night for two valued at $200.
To get started, participants must sign up with the online platform, Cruz511, which offers trip logging, carpool matching, transit options, and bike and walk routing. Those who need help finding a carpool buddy or developing a carpool routine can email the GO Santa Cruz team at email@example.com.
Since the launch of GO Santa Cruz in October 2019, 936 of 4,000 downtown employees (23 percent) have registered through the online portal for the program. To date, participants have requested:
- 556 free METRO transit passes
- 219 JUMP bike discount benefits
- 134 $20 BikeLink bike locker cards
GO Santa Cruz is part of the City’s ongoing effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and play an active role in addressing climate change. The City is a national leader in reducing single-occupant car trips and has achieved the second highest rate of bike commuting in the U.S.
