Summary Scope of Work:

The Parks and Recreation department of the City of Santa Cruz is soliciting proposals for Consulting Services (the “Services”) to Prepare a GIS-Based Urban Tree Inventory (the “Project”), as part of the funding awarded by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (“CalFire”)’s Community Forestry Grant Program. The Urban Tree Inventory is critical to accurately identify, quantify and establish a resource baseline condition and canopy coverage, identify the needs of individual trees and the forest ecosystem, contribute to stormwater management and climate action goals, identify objectives for urban tree canopy coverage and enhancements, improve enforcement of existing urban forestry policies and regulations, and for the effective and efficient long-term planning and management of the City’s urban forest. The City defines the urban forest to be the trees located within City urban street right of ways and medians.

The City of Santa Cruz is committed to promoting a healthy and livable community; restoration and protection of its urban forest is one of the means to achieve that. Community partners and students are involved in aspects of this Project outside of the scope of work included in this RFP. However, the Successful Proposer shall be willing to allow higher education students to shadow and observe their field work a limited portion of the time.

The intent in soliciting proposals for this Project is to obtain cost savings and to allow for a competitive process while maintaining an acceptable quality of services requested. The scope of work for this Project must be complete by December 1, 2019.
