This week the City of Santa Cruz is launching Street Smarts, a new traffic safety public education campaign.
The City of Santa Cruz is preparing to issue a Mitigated Negative Declaration of environmental impact for the Rail Trail Segment 7 (Phase I) project.

The City announced that water activity restrictions at local beaches have been lifted a day early at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 14th.

City Manager Martín Bernal announced the appointment of Lee Butler as the new Planning and Community Development Director for the City of Santa Cruz.
On the evening of Tuesday, June 27, come learn about the current housing conditions in Santa Cruz and engage in the development of a housing roadmap.
Sky Lanterns are made from combustible materials such as paper bags or light fabrics which then take flight by the heat from an open flame candle. These devices are a fire safety hazard and the Santa Cruz Fire Department prohibits their use.

The Measure H Ocean Street repaving project will begin the week of June 19. Alternating lane closures and traffic control will be in place on Ocean Street between Soquel Avenue and East Cliff Drive.
The City of Santa Cruz is participating in the California Bye Bye Mattress recycling program to help decrease the glut of mattresses that end up in U.S. landfills.

City officials hosted the 2nd annual State of the City on May 23rd at Hotel Paradox. City staff and the mayor shared recent City accomplishments and planned efforts with a crowd of 150 community leaders.
The City of Santa Cruz is offering free summer tours of its recycling center, the Resource Recovery Facility, 605 Dimeo Lane, on Thursdays and Fridays June 15 and 16, July 13 and 14, and August 10 and 11.
