SUMMER CAMPS JOBS

All new applicants must also attend a Mandatory Skills Assessment on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at  the Clubhouse at Harvey West Park from 9:00am-1:00pm. This is an active, practical test to evaluate your performance leading a group in games, crafts, and conflict resolution. Only the most qualified/experienced applicants will be invited back to interviews scheduled for the week of April 25, 2016.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Attend All-Staff training June 13-17, 2016.
• Possession at time of hire and continued maintenance of certification in both First Aid and Adult/Child/Infant CPR. Proof of certification must be presented by June 13, 2016. *NO EXCEPTIONS*
• Proof of negative tuberculosis test or clear chest x-ray results must be presented by June 13, 2016.
• Attend all staff meetings (Evening to be determined, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.)
• All staff must be available to work for the entire length of the program, June 20 - August 12, 2016. *NO EXCEPTIONS* 
• Fingerprint clearance of all employees required prior to beginning work. 

Recreation Leader III - Day Camp Site Supervisor: Under supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, Summer Camp Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor, plan, organize, implement and lead an assigned children’s summer day camp program. STARTING WAGE: $12.2208/hour

TYPICAL DUTIES: 
• Plan, prepare and organize daily, weekly and seasonal activities. 
• Train, schedule and coordinate recreation staff and volunteers assigned to facility or activity. 
• Lead various activities- including games, sports, crafts, songs, and field trips. 
• Prepare monthly reports, program evaluation forms, and incident/ accident reports. 
• Supervise the maintenance of equipment, supplies and facilities; open and close facilities when necessary; coordinate facility and activity needs with school/park personnel. 
• Supervise and delegate duties to Recreation Leaders I & II, Junior Leaders and participants ages 5 – 12. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Must be at least 18 years old at time of hire.
• Working knowledge of a variety of age/ability-appropriate children’s games and activities.
• Understand and give verbal/written instructions.
• Independently initiate and complete work activities.
• Effectively motivate and supervise a number of children, volunteers and staff at once.
• Enforce and explain divisional policies and procedures.
• Interact effectively and professionally with a wide variety of individuals.
• Respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations.
• Maintain accurate attendance and budget records.
• Plan and coordinate short and long-range activities.
• Willingness to work irregular schedule.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 
• Attend Site Supervisor Training May 21 & 22, 2016, 8am – 5pm.
• Attend all weekly staff meetings

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
• High school graduation or G.E.D.
• Two (2) years experience (paid or unpaid) supervising and leading children’s activities in a recreation setting.
• Two years of experience supervising recreation personnel.

Recreation Leader II: Under supervision of the Recreation Leader III, Recreation Coordinator & Summer Camp Coordinator, assists in organizing, leading and supervising an assigned children's summer day camp program. STARTING WAGE: $11.0244/hour

• Supervise a large group of children at one time in a recreation program.

• Act as a cashier when necessary.
• Maintain attendance records and rosters for recreation programs.
• Complete department forms and reports as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Must be at least 17 years age at time of hire.
• Working knowledge of a variety of children's games and activities, with a minimum of one year of experience.
• Understand and give verbal and written instructions.
• Independently initiate and complete work activities.
• Enforce and explain divisional policies and procedures.
• Interact effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals.
• Respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations.

Recreation Leader I: Under direction of the Recreation Leader III, Recreation Coordinator and Summer Camp Coordinator, assumes assigned responsibilities for assisting with the planning, organizing and supervising of various activities in summer day camp program. STARTING WAGE: $10.00/hour

TYPICAL DUTIES: 
• Lead and conduct recreation activities - including field trips, games, sports, songs and crafts.
• Assist with the preparation, scheduling and planning of daily, weekly, and monthly activities.
• Assist with the implementation of program plans.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire.
• Possess leadership skills in several areas of recreation activities.
• Reliable and conscientious with children, parents and adults.
• Ability to lead and participate in recreation games and sports.
• Ability to express ideas to groups.
• Willingness to work irregular schedule.

SANTA CRUZ TEEN CENTER

Recreation Leader II - $11.0244/hour - Position Open Until Filled
Provide programming activities and teen mentorship for the Santa Cruz Teen Center. Under supervision aids in organization, implementation, and supervision of activities, programs, and special events at the Teen Center located at the Louden Nelson Community Center at 301 Center Street. Must maintain flexibility, as the Teen Center is open daily (weekday hours based on school schedules.) Recreation Leader II will also work at local Middle School lunch time programs.

TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE: 
• Assists in organizing, and implementing daily activities at the Teen Center and at local Middle Schools.
• Supervises the maintenance of equipment, supplies, and facility; coordinates site and activities when needed with program partners. 
• Prepares documents such as event flyers, program evaluation forms, publicity, permission slips etc. 
• Completes department forms and reports as needed. 
• Acts as cashier and makes deposits when required. 
• Provides lead supervision for teen leaders, volunteer staff and program participants.


JOB REQUIREMENTS: 
• Working knowledge of recreation programs, services and activities for teens and their appropriateness; and strong interest in working with teens and young adults. 
• Interact effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals (teens, young adults, parent, business community). 
• Respond calmly and effectively to spontaneous and/or emergency situations. 
• Accurately prepare reports: weekly calendars, letters, program evaluation forms, memos, accident reports, parent correspondence, permission slips, etc. 
• Attend all staff meetings 
• Ability to work with teens & co-workers from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. 
• Ability to enforce and explain program and facility guidelines, policies, and procedures. 
• Flexibility and willingness to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and holidays. 
• Ability to maintain neat appearance, and wear program uniform and closed toed shoes while working. 
• Strong communication skills: ability to understand and give verbal and written instructions. 
• Independently initiate and complete work activities. 
• Effectively motivate and supervise a number of teens at one time. 
• Clearance on fingerprinting of all employees is required before work begins. 
• Must be 20 years old at time of hire.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 
• High school diploma or G.E.D. and 2 years of college experience.
• 1-2 years paid or unpaid experience leading activities in teen programs, activities or services in either a traditional or non-traditional recreation setting.
• Recreation, P.E. or Education/Child Development course work preferred.


REQUIRED LICENSES/TRAINING: 
• Possession and maintenance of current certification in First Aid and CPR prior to starting work. 
• Proof of negative tuberculosis test or clear chest X-ray results.


OTHER HELPFUL SKILLS (not required): 
• Bilingual/Bi-Cultural strongly desired 
• Experience or knowledge of substance abuse issues (i.e. drugs and alcohol) 
• Experience or knowledge of violence prevention issues in the youth community 
• Familiarity with local community organizations and resources very useful

SPECIAL EVENTS

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under supervision of the Recreation Leader 4, assist in the administration of special events and other programs as needed.


TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Assist with the day of duties of City special events and programs.
• Purchase, maintain and transport all event supplies.
• Work with the public to convey event information and direct customers to various activities within the event.
• May assist with parking direction/information for day of event parking.
• Move equipment and set up event tents and tabling.
• Report daily to Recreation Leader IV.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Abilities:

• Independently initiate and complete work activities.
• Understand and give effective written and verbal instructions.

CIVIC AUDITORIUM

 

JOB OPENINGS

The Civic is looking for reliable, professional, customer–service oriented applicants for the following temporary, on-call positions:

Civic Auditorium Security / Ushers- Recreation II  $11.02/hour

Assist patrons, distribute programs, take tickets, monitor backstage or restricted areas as assigned.

 

Civic Auditorium Cashier $11.02/hour

Sell concession & miscellaneous items during Civic Auditorium  events, set up concessions area, minor food prep

 and clean-up. Cash handling, register experience preferred. Requires fingerprinting & TB test.

 

Civic Auditorium Maintenance Worker Aide $11.17/hour

Custodial & Maintenance duties,  stock concessions area. Also event prep: setting up chairs/tables for Civic events and post-event break-down and clean up.

  

All positions are on-call. On-call positions require a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
