SUMMER CAMPS

This is a practical test to evaluate your performance leading a group in games, crafts, and conflict resolution. Only the most qualified/experienced applicants will be invited back for an interview scheduled for the week of April 24, 2017.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• All staff must attend All-Staff training June 12-16, 2017, 8am-5pm.
• All Site Supervisors (Recreation Leader IV) must attend Site Supervisors Training May 20 & 21, 2017, 8am – 5pm.
• All Staff must attend all bi-weekly staff meetings and all Site Supervisors must attend weekly staff meetings. (Wednesday evenings 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.)
• Possession at time of hire and continued maintenance of certification in both First Aid and Adult/Child/Infant CPR. Proof of certification must be presented by June 12, 2017. *NO EXCEPTIONS*
• Proof of negative tuberculosis test or clear chest x-ray results must be presented by June 12, 2017.
• All staff must be available to work for the entire length of the program, June 19 - August 11, 2017 (except July 4) - *NO EXCEPTIONS*
• Fingerprint clearance of all employees required prior to beginning work.

Recreation Leader I: Under direction of the Recreation Leader IV and Summer Camps Coordinator, assumes assigned responsibilities for assisting with the planning, organizing and supervising of various activities in summer day camp program.

PAY RANGE: $10.7100 - $11.2455 - $11.8078 - $12.3982/per hour
HOURS: Approximately 10-20 hours per week
MINIMUM AGE/EXPERIENCE: Must be 15½ years old at program start date. Entry level position

Recreation Leader II: Under direction of the Recreation Leader IV and Summer Camps Coordinator, assumes assigned responsibilities for assisting with the planning, organizing and supervising of various activities in summer day camp program.

PAY RANGE: $11.8075 – $12.3989 – $13.0167 – $13.6699 – $14.3521 per hour
HOURS: Approximately 15–25 hours per week
MINIMUM AGE/EXPERIENCE: Must be 16 years old by program start date. Three (3) seasons/semesters of volunteer or one (1) season/semester of paid experience working with children in a recreation or education setting.

Recreation Leader III: Under supervision of the Recreation Leader IV, Summer Camps Coordinator, Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor, plan, organize, implement and lead an assigned children’s summer day camp program.

PAY RANGE: $13.0178 - $13.6699 - $14.3526 - $15.0705 - $15.8232 per hour
HOURS: 30-40 hours per week
MINIMUM AGE/EXPERIENCE: Must be 18 years old at time of hire. Three (3) seasons/semesters of paid experience working with children in a recreation or education setting. One (1) season/semester experience leading staff.

Recreation Leader IV - Site Supervisor: Under supervision of the Summer Camps Coordinator, Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor, plan, organize, implement and lead an assigned children’s summer day camp program.

PAY RANGE: $14.3521 - $15.0705 - $15.8238 - $15.0705 - $15.8232 per hour
HOURS: 40 hours per week
MINIMUM AGE/EXPERIENCE: Must be 18 years old at time of hire. Three (3) seasons/semesters of paid experience working with children in a recreation or education setting. Two (2) seasons/semesters experience supervising staff.

TEEN SUMMER INTERN

This summer program is targeted for teen employment for students entering high school or college level courses in the Fall of 2017.

Under direction of the Recreation Leader IV and Recreation Coordinator, assumes assigned responsibilities in various
departments within the City of Santa Cruz. Will learn duties and work in their areas assigned.

PAY RANGE: $10.71 per hour
HOURS: 12-20 hours per week
MINIMUM AGE: Must be 16 years old at time of hire

PARKS & OPEN SPACES

This summer program is targeted for teen employment, as part of the Public Safety Task Force recommendations.

Under direction of the Park Maintenance Worker, assists with performing trail maintenance and resource management duties. Work will take place in Pogonip and/or DeLaveaga Park.

PAY RANGE: $10.71 - $11.80 per hour (effective April 8, 2017)
HOURS: 20 hours per week
AVAILABLE SHIFTS: 7am -11am or 11:30am – 3:30pm
MINIMUM AGE: Must be 16 years old at time of hire

TYPICAL DUTIES:
• Cut and clear weeds and brush; clean trails.
• Hand grade terrain.
• Rake, gather, load and haul refuse, debris, brush, scrap lumber and rubble from parks facilities.
• Performs routine maintenance and repair of tools.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire.
• Ability to safely perform heavy sustained manual labor (which involves frequent bending, pulling, pushing, lifting and carrying of up to approximately 60 pounds)
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions given in English.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a crew.
• Ability to learn and perform proper use of tools, supplies and equipment.
• Willing to learn new skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Commitment to 8 weeks
• Must have transportation to both Harvey West and DeLaveaga Park
• Must wear personal protective equipment provided by department.
• Must wear program uniform while working, provided by the department.
• Must wear closed-toed sturdy shoes.
• Observe safety principles and work in a safe manner.

CIVIC AUDITORIUM

Box Office Ticket Cashier - Recreation Leader II: 

PAY RANGE: $11.8075

HOURS: 10-15 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Work in the Box Office at the Civic Auditorium selling tickets to shows, concerts, events, festivals held at the Civic Auditorium. Provide assistance to patrons in person, phone and via email with selecting specific seats, providing detailed concert information, explaining policies and giving advice on best seat selection.

Work as part of a small team during the Box Office hours 2-3 days per week and then work show shifts when the events take place. Our office is open to the public Tues-Friday 11am-6pm. A typical shift will be two to three days a week as either the opening or closing shift. Show nights are typically Friday and Saturday evenings about 1-3 per month.

Customer service for patrons who have varied interests--- from classical orchestra concerts to comedic acts to martial arts demonstrations. Must be flexible and willing to work as part of team.

This is a year round position. The schedule is flexible if hours need to be increased or decreased based on school schedule but you must be residing in Santa Cruz County for a portion of the summer season.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Some customer service experience required – retail, restaurant, amusement park or similar facility experience is welcome.

Possess some accounting skills. Comfortable handling basic cash counting transactions, nightly financial deposits, interpreting financial reports to ensure the cash, credit card transaction match what revenue was taken in.

Ability to communicate with patrons policies regarding tickets from various Producers in a straight forward, polite manner.

 Willingness to work a regular weekly schedule between 10-20 hours.

Willingness to work a nights and weekends during show dates (usually 1-2 per month) with advance notice.

Willing to learn new skills and be a team player.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Fingerprint clearance of all City employees is required prior to beginning work when handling cash or serving food.
