SUMMER TEEN INTERN

Under direction of the Recreation Leader IV and Recreation Coordinator, assumes assigned responsibilities in various departments within the City of Santa Cruz. Will learn duties and work in their areas assigned. Starting Wage: $10.00 per hour

REQUIREMENTS:
• Attend All-Staff training June 13-17, 2016.
• Possession at time of hire and continued maintenance of certification in both First Aid and Adult/Child/Infant CPR. Proof of certification must be presented by June 13, 2016. *NO EXCEPTIONS*
• Proof of negative tuberculosis test or clear chest x-ray results must be presented by June 13, 2016.
• Attend all staff meetings (Evening to be determined, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.)
• All staff must be available to work for the entire length of the program, June 20 - August 12, 2016. *NO EXCEPTIONS* 
• Fingerprint clearance of all employees required prior to beginning work. 

Recreation Leader III - Day Camp Site Supervisor: Under supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, Summer Camp Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor, plan, organize, implement and lead an assigned children’s summer day camp program. STARTING WAGE: $12.2208/hour

TYPICAL DUTIES: 
• Plan, prepare and organize daily, weekly and seasonal activities. 
• Train, schedule and coordinate recreation staff and volunteers assigned to facility or activity. 
• Lead various activities- including games, sports, crafts, songs, and field trips. 
• Prepare monthly reports, program evaluation forms, and incident/ accident reports. 
• Supervise the maintenance of equipment, supplies and facilities; open and close facilities when necessary; coordinate facility and activity needs with school/park personnel. 
• Supervise and delegate duties to Recreation Leaders I & II, Junior Leaders and participants ages 5 – 12. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
• Must be at least 18 years old at time of hire.
• Working knowledge of a variety of age/ability-appropriate children’s games and activities.
• Understand and give verbal/written instructions.
• Independently initiate and complete work activities.
• Effectively motivate and supervise a number of children, volunteers and staff at once.
• Enforce and explain divisional policies and procedures.
• Interact effectively and professionally with a wide variety of individuals.
• Respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations.
• Maintain accurate attendance and budget records.
• Plan and coordinate short and long-range activities.
• Willingness to work irregular schedule.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 
• Attend Site Supervisor Training May 21 & 22, 2016, 8am – 5pm.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
• High school graduation or G.E.D.
• Two (2) years experience (paid or unpaid) supervising and leading children’s activities in a recreation setting.
• Two years of experience supervising recreation personnel.

Trail Maintenance Aide | SUMMER 2016 

REPORTS TO: Park Maintenance Worker
DESIGNATION: Temporary, Seasonal
PROGRAM DATES: June 20 - August 12, 2016
STARTING WAGES/HOURS: 10.00/hr; 20 hours per week, two available shifts 7am -11am & 11:30am – 3:30pm

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

Under direction of the Park Maintenance Worker, assists with performing trail maintenance and resource management duties.

Work will take place in Pogonip and DeLaveaga Park.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
Cut and clear weeds and brush; clean trails.
Hand grades terrain.
Rake, gather, load and haul refuse, debris, brush, scrap lumber and rubble from parks facilities.
Performs routine maintenance and repair of tools
Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·  Must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire.
· Ability to safely perform heavy sustained manual labor (which involves frequent bending, pulling, pushing, lifting and carrying of up to approximately 60 pounds)
·  Ability to follow oral and written instructions given in English.
·  Ability to work effectively as a member of a crew.
·  Ability to learn and perform proper use of tools, supplies and equipment.
·  Willing to learn new skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

·  Commitment to 8 weeks
•  Must have transportation to both Harvey West and DeLaveaga Park       
·  Must wear personal protective equipment provided by department.
·  Must wear program uniform while working, provided by the department.
·  Must wear closed-toed shoes.

SPORTS

Recreation Leader II - Sports Site Supervisor - $11.0244/hour
Reports to: Recreation Supervisor - Sports

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under supervision, assists in organizing, and supervising adult and youth sports leagues and recreation programs. Assists in the preparation of facilities for daily activities.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Opens and closes facilities and maintains equipment.
- Prepare accident/incident reports, maintain a facility log.
- Prepare protest reports.
- Inventory/stock needed equipment and supplies for league and sports activities.
- Deliver score sheet and press information to appropriate location in a timely manner.
- Completes department forms and reports as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of basketball, softball/baseball and/or volleyball, preferably with at least one year of playing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to:
- follow written and verbal instructions.
- independently initiate and complete work activities.
- maintain accurate records.
- enforce and explain divisional policies and procedures.
- interact effectively and tactfully with adults and youth.
- respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be available for staff training date TBA
- Must attend all staff meetings.
- Wear program uniform.
- Wear closed-toe shoes.
- Report to work on time as scheduled.
- Consistent attendance is required.

Maintenance Worker Aide - Sports Field Prep - $11.1725/hour
Reports to: Recreation Supervisor - Sports

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under general supervision, does maintenance work on fields and facilities in preparation for recreation league games.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (duties may include but are not limited to the following):
-Rake, drag and remove rocks from softball infields, providing smooth playing
surface for recreation league games
-Water infields with sprinklers and hose
-Mix and pack fines with heavy, square tamp in batter’s boxes and around bases
-Use chalker to draw base lines, batter’s boxes, coaches’ boxes and on-deck circles
-Use sprayer to line foul lines and encroachment lines in the outfield
-Use water pump to remove standing water from infields after heavy rains
-Apply DiamondDry to infields when necessary after rains
-Put bases out and “strike mat” out at home plate
-Prepare umpire bag for each field (softballs, pencils, score cards, timer, etc.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge and abilities):
-Working knowledge of softball/baseball, preferably with at least one year of playing experience.
-Demonstrated ability to:

Under supervision of the Recreation Leader 4, assist in the administration of special events and other programs as needed.


TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Assist with the day of duties of City special events and programs.
• Purchase, maintain and transport all event supplies.
• Work with the public to convey event information and direct customers to various activities within the event.
• May assist with parking direction/information for day of event parking.
• Move equipment and set up event tents and tabling.
• Report daily to Recreation Leader IV.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

CIVIC AUDITORIUM

 

JOB OPENINGS

The Civic is looking for reliable, professional, customer–service oriented applicants for the following temporary, on-call positions:

Civic Auditorium Security / Ushers- Recreation II  $11.02/hour

Assist patrons, distribute programs, take tickets, monitor backstage or restricted areas as assigned.

 

Civic Auditorium Cashier $11.02/hour

Sell concession & miscellaneous items during Civic Auditorium  events, set up concessions area, minor food prep

 and clean-up. Cash handling, register experience preferred. Requires fingerprinting & TB test.

 

Civic Auditorium Maintenance Worker Aide $11.17/hour

Custodial & Maintenance duties,  stock concessions area. Also event prep: setting up chairs/tables for Civic events and post-event break-down and clean up.

  

All positions are on-call. On-call positions require a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
