Board of Building and Fire Appeals

Meetings:

Meetings are held usually only upon appeal, which is rare. The Building Official may call other special meetings from time to time to update the commission on construction codes and procedures.

Meetings are held in City Planning Department conference room at 809 Center Street, Room 107,
Santa Cruz, CA.

Mission:

To interpret technical decisions of the building official and/or the fire marshall. The duties and procedures of the Board are given in chapter 18.41 of the Municipal Code.

Membership:

The Board consists of five regular members and three alternates. Members are appointed by the City Council.

The five regular members must be any of the following: architect, engineer (civil, structural, mechanical, or electrical), general building contractor, engineering contractor, electrician, plumber, mechanical or sheet metal contractor, non jurisdictional building inspector or fire inspector or similar person demonstrating experience (as an alternate)

Alternates are two disabled access specialist and one energy conservation specialist.
