On May 14th, the Santa Cruz City Council voted to put a hold on the decision to proceed with a Downtown Library Mixed Use Project and convene a council subcommittee to investigate library project alternatives, in collaboration with Library staff and the interested community, and return with a recommendation to the larger council no later than October 2019.

Subcommittee Work Plan: 

The Council Subcommittee is still working on the work plan. Below is a tentative outline of meeting dates for the subcommittee. A meeting recap will be available here following each meeting. 


June 19th, 4pm

Discussion of Library Needs. Meeting will include a presentation from DLAC and discussion with community stakeholder groups. More information available here

Aug. 7th  

This will be an internal meeting focused on financing. The subcommittee will be looking at the various potential project funding sources: Measure S, Parking Funds, Affordable Housing Funding, and Homelessness Funding.

Sept. 17th, 4:30pm

Vision for Downtown Santa Cruz. Meeting will include presentations on Downtown Trends and opportunities from Progressive Urban Management Associates (PUMA), National Development Council (NDC), and staff. Then there will be a discussion with community stakeholder groups about their Vision for Downtown. More information here.

The Council Subcommittee is setting up office hours to meet with stakeholder groups. Each stakeholder group with be given one (1) 20-minute session to meet with the Council Subcommittee members. Please email staff to request a time slot. Slots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.
