Jump Start Your Business in Santa Cruz

2012 March Newsletter

Starting a business is a life-changing event for any entrepreneur and a difficult process to navigate alone. But thanks to the Central Coast Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Cabrillo College, entrepreneurs in Santa Cruz have a helping hand to see them through the process. Funded by the Small Business Administration and supported by the City’s Economic Development Department, our local SBDC is a fantastic resource for business owners.

Just last year the SBDC provided 2,300 hours of counseling for more than 410 business owners looking to open or expand their local ventures. Its team of 20 counselors (whose services are free of charge and confidential) helped business owners write business plans, set up bookkeeping systems, increase sales and secure $5.8 million in low-interest business loans. The SBDC also holds public seminars, including the Brown Bag Lunch Series at the Main Library, to help existing business owners learn new skills, including e-commerce, tax preparation, sales and marketing and social media. For more information, please visit the SBDC website or call (831) 479-6136.
