Santa Cruz, CA - City officials hosted the 2nd annual State of the City last Tuesday at Hotel Paradox.  City staff and the mayor shared recent City accomplishments and planned efforts with a crowd of 150 community leaders. Presentations included discussions about the housing crisis and how the City intends to work with its partners and members of the community to address the issue.  In addition, the City Manager provided an overview of the newly adopted two-year City Council Work Plan and the proposed Fiscal Year 2018 Budget.  

The event also included a presentation from IDEO, regarding how individuals, groups, businesses, etc. can re-imagine community or business problems as opportunities simply by reframing the issue.  The speaker recommended that when tackling big issues to ask the following question, "How might we....".  The positive and future oriented question allows for brainstorming and thinking creatively about issues.    

Members of the public asked questions about housing projects, how the City can tackle homelessness and what can be done to include the broad array of perspectives on important City decisions.
