JUNIOR LIFEGUARD / MARINE SAFETY

Jr. Lifeguard Lieutenant (JG Lt.)

Salary Range: $16.59 - $20.17 / per hour

Basic Function:
Under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the position of Jr. Lifeguard Lieutenant (JG Lt.) hires, trains and supervises all JG I & JG II instructors. JG Lt. plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the entire operation of the Jr. Lifeguard program including competitions, special events and daily activities. Assignments include: Administrative office work, program budget & payroll management, staff & group assignments, weekly staff meetings, Parks & Rec. Dept meetings as assigned, attends JG Booster Club meetings in the Recreation Supervisor’s absence. The JG Lt. is required to possess current T-22 & CPR (Pro or healthcare provider) certifications and will respond to medical emergencies in the beach area via Net-Comm Dispatch, as needed by the Marine Safety Fire Captain. Provides information and assistance to the public. Performs other duties as required.

Season & Hours: Spring - planning & training 2/2 to 5/31, hours vary (5 - 20 hrs./wk.)
Summer - 6/1– 8/23, 40 hrs./wk.

SPORTS DEPARTMENT

Sports Field Prep Worker - Recreation Leader III:

Wage Range: $13.0178 - $15.8232 / per hour.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, provides maintenance work on fields and facilities in preparation for recreation sports league games and activities. Must know how to use basic hand tools. Maintain sports fields for optimum playing condition. Water infields with sprinklers and hose. Mix and pack fines with heavy, square tamp in batter's boxes and around bases. Use a chalker to draw base lines, batter's box, coaches' boxes and on-deck circles. Paint foul lines and encroachment lines in the outfield. Put bases out and the "strike mat" on home plate. Prepare umpire bag for each field (Softballs, pencils, score cards, timers, etc.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Working knowledge of softball/baseball, preferably with one year of experience. Demonstrated ability to: follow written and verbal instructions, independently initiate and complete work activities, maintain accurate records, interact effectively and tactfully with adults and youth, respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations, and maintain open communication with Parks and Recreation staff and participants. Willingness to work flexible, irregular schedules including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be 18 years old at time of hire. Possession of valid California Driver's License at time of hire and DMV printout required, presented at time of hire.

Sports Site Supervisor - Recreation Leader III:

Wage Range: $13.0178 - $15.8232 / per hour.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under supervision, assists in organizing and supervising adult and youth sports leagues and recreation programs. Prepares, opens and secures facilities for sports programs and activities. Greets the public, explains sport/league rules and department policies and procedures. Acts as a scorekeeper as assigned. Opens and closes facilities and maintains equipment. Prepares accident/incident reports, maintains a facility log. Prepare protest reports. Inventory/stock needed equipment and supplies for league and sports activities. Deliver score sheets and press information to appropriate location in a timely manner. Completes department forms and reports as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Working knowledge of basketball, softball/baseball, and/or soccer, preferably with at least one year of playing experience. Demonstrated ability to: follow written and verbal instructions, independently initiate and complete work activities, maintain accurate records, enforce and explain divisional policies and procedures, interact effectively and tactfully with adults and youth, respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations, and maintain open communication with site staff and participants. Willingness to work flexible, irregular schedules including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be 18 years old at time of hire. Possession of valid California Driver's License at time of hire, and present DMV printout at time of hire.
