October 17: Nisene Marks State Park (epicenter hike) *optional picnic lunch
Meet at the Porter Family Picnic Area parking lot, about 1.5 miles past the kiosk at the entrance to Nisene Marks State Park, Aptos Creek Road, Aptos. There is a VANPOOL available for this trip. Limited seating; sign up and meet at Louden Nelson Community Center. Vanpool leaves Louden at 8:45am and will stay for lunch after the hike. For those not in the vanpool, parking is $8 ($7 seniors over 62) per car. If you aren't in the vanpool but want to carpool in personal vehicles, please meet at Louden Nelson Community Center before 8:45am. We will hike through the redwoods of Nisene Marks State Park to the epicenter of the Loma Prieta earthquake, which happened on Oct 17, 1989. Easy to moderate terrain. Walking stick recommended. *Optional: Bring your own lunch and join us after the hike at some picnic tables overlooking the creek.
October 24: W Cliff Drive (dog friendly)
Meet at the corner of W Cliff Drive and Swanton Blvd., near the entrance of Natural Bridges State Park. We will walk along the northern stretch of W Cliff Drive and back. Easy terrain. Leashed dogs welcome.
October 31: Evergreen Cemetery & Harvey West Park
Meet at the Evergreen Cemetery entrance near Harvey West Park on Evergreen Street. We will hike around Harvey West Park for 30 minutes and then go back to Evergreen Cemetery for a guided tour with Museum of Art & History (MAH) volunteers. This will be an informative tour full of great stories. Easy terrain.
