On September 25, 2018 the Santa Cruz City Council approved an application to amend the General Plan designation and Zoning for the property at 1930 Ocean Street Extension, in addition to a 32-unit residential condominium development.
The application had proposed 40 units, but the City Council made a motion to eliminate 8 units from the plan. Also included as part of the motion was direction to the “Community Development Department to hold a community meeting to obtain input regarding the redesign of the site plan with 32 units, and directing the Community Development Director to approve the redesign at the administrative level with no appeal process.”
A Community Meeting was held on June 6, 2019 to present three site plan options and gather input from the community. In addition to the community meeting, the Community Development Department is making the three site plan options available on our website for public review and input. Public comments will be received through Sunday, July 7, 2019. Following the comment period the Community Development Director will take the public’s input into consideration in rendering a decision on the approved site plan option. The options presented focus on the removal of two of the ten original buildings so that the plan can be reduced from 40 to 32 units. The final plan is not limited to one of the three options presented; however, the three options presented meet certain objectives. For example, each option keeps the two buildings closest to Ocean Street Extension and the new driveway, as those locations offer the easiest means to provide access to those of varying abilities, and each option shifts the two buildings that are closest to the cemetery’s chapel building slightly north, so that they provide additional separation from that structure. In each option, the dashed lines depict the original locations of the buildings. The original plan from the Council meeting on September 25, 2018 has been provided for easy reference.
