Santa Cruz City Rangers operate and maintain City recreational, open space (including neighborhood and community parks); provide information and assistance to the public; perform basic maintenance and repairs; patrol assigned areas to insure compliance with rules and regulations; respond to emergency medical situations and perform related duties as assigned.
Primary responsibility of the Rangers is assisting with the protection, general maintenance and enhancement of the recreation areas and facilities managed by the City of Santa Cruz, and assisting the public in the use of these facilities. Emphasis is placed on the protection and preservation of open space lands and recreation facilities, carrying out resource management projects, park operations, maintaining open space lands and recreation facilities, and providing such visitor services as patrol, municipal code enforcement, emergency response, and interpretation.
The newly added sector of the Santa Cruz Police Rangers has enabled the City of Santa Cruz to utilize the diverse Ranger skillset within Neighborhood Policing Teams. With the right tools Rangers are now able to better assist individuals with items including: Letters of Authority, Homeward Bound Project, and found property. This transition has also allowed for closer communications and goal setting between Rangers and Police Officers, allowing them to work more efficiently in meeting the needs of individualized regions within our diverse city.
