The Chief of Police is responsible to the community members of Santa Cruz to provide a Police Department whose goals are to protect and serve the community in a professional and distinguished manner. The Chief of Police is responsible for providing leadership and administrative management of the Police Department, and reports to the City Manager.

Dear Fellow Communitymembers:
Thank
you for taking the time to visit our website and for your continued
partnership with our agency. I am keenly aware that in order to be
successful a strong sense
of unity and shared purpose must exist between your police and our
community. As your police chief, I am committed to building this shared
purpose and providing the most accountable, transparent and successful
law enforcement agency possible.
As
a forward-thinking organization dedicated to community service, we
understand that progress is never made by maintaining the status quo.
Each and every officer in
our department embodies this commitment to change and has an unyielding
commitment to the betterment of our city.
As
chief I intend to be accessible, visible and accountable to our
community. I will empower the officers in our agency to take calculated
risks -- fostering an environment
where officers are encouraged and rewarded for innovation and
collaboration -- where officers will try, innovate and change without
fear of failure.
In
turn, I challenge the community to help us create a city where our
actions, our policies and our voices are united toward a goal of public
safety and community improvement.
