In 1994, the Santa Cruz City Council approved the first neighborhood Storefront Improvement Program for the City's East Side. Since its inception, more than 100 facade improvement projects have been completed. In addition to enhancing the appreciation of the streetscape, successful facade improvement projects help new and established businesses attract customers, leverage private investment from building owners, and inspire improvements to neighboring buildings. The pictures above and below illustrate several facade projects.
Administration and funding of the grant program takes place through the City Redevelopment Agency. Grants do not have to be repaid.
Each Facade Improvement Program has a set of conditions and qualifications. The first step is to determine your business's/property's eligibility for the program based on geographic location.
If you are interested in this opportunity or would like further information, you may contact the Redevelopment Agency at 831-420-5150 or by email.
You may download the program information, guidelines and application.
