scwd2 Desalination Program
The City of Santa Cruz Water Department (SCWD) and the Soquel Creek Water District (SqCWD) have identified desalination as the best option for delivering a flexible and reliable water source. To take advantage of the benefits derived from a cooperative facility, SCWD and SqCWD have joined together to address their different needs and share the costs associated with evaluating the proposed project.
The scwd2 Desalination Program has an entire website dedicated to the program - we recommend that you visit it for more information.
scwd2 Desalination Task Force
In March 2007, the scwd2 Task Force was formed to oversee the desalination program and to provide a forum for public input for the proposed 2.5 mgd seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant. The Task Force consists of two City of Santa Cruz Councilmembers and two Soquel Creek Water District Board Members. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month and are open to the public. Anyone wishing to address the task force members may do so during the public comment period. The meeting location alternates between the City of Santa Cruz Water Department Conference Room (212 Locust Street, Suite A, Santa Cruz, CA) and Soquel Creek Water District Headquarters (5180 Soquel Drive, Soquel, CA).
