Summary

This ordinance amendment would, pursuant to Santa Cruz City Charter Section 603, adjust Councilmember compensation so that effective January 1, 2010, each Councilmember shall receive a salary of $1,710.35 per month, and the Mayor shall receive a salary of $3,420.68 per month. Note: Councilmembers have elected to not accept the increase in compensation.

This Ordinance amends Section 24.10.2301 of the Santa Cruz Municipal Code and Chapter 4 of the Downtown Recovery Plan to add offices to the list of permitted ground floor uses on North Pacific Avenue, and clarifies that the depth requirements for ground floor tenant spaces along North Pacific Avenue apply to new construction.

This ordinance amends the Smoking Pollution Control Chapter (6.04) of the Santa Cruz Municipal Code, establishing a citywide smoking prohibition within 25' of open windows and doors used by the public; on the Pacific Avenue and Beach Street right-of-ways; in and around City buildings; and in or on City parks, the Municipal Wharf and recreational facilities and trails, unless specifically designated as a smoking area.

In accordance with Government Code Section 65858, on July 28, 2009 an uncodified Interim Ordinance of the City of Santa Cruz extending the temporary moratorium against the establishment of medical marijuana dispensaries or production houses anywhere within the City of Santa Cruz was enacted by the City Council for a period of six (6) months pending further study by City staff and development of appropriate regulations.
