Online Application FAQ's

1) Will you still accept paper applications?
a. Yes. Online applications are preferred however paper applications are still available in the HR Office and a link will remain online for the print application form.

2) Can I apply to all City jobs using online applications?
a. No, only regular (non-temporary) jobs will be online. Apply for all temporary, seasonal and on call jobs with paper applications, including Library Aide. Lateral and Transfer of Eligibility applications will also require paper applications, for instance Police Officer Lateral.
3) Will you accept attachments?
a. Yes, resumes, certificates, letters of recommendation etc. can be attached as pdf files to your application. Scan each document in separately. It is recommended to use a pdf version of any Word or Excel files, as this prevents any possibility of a change being made after submission.

4) I don’t have a scanner. Can I still submit additional materials?
a. Yes, send them by mail or bring them in to the HR Office by 5 p.m. on the deadline date. Postmarks will not be accepted. If there is no deadline date - as in "first 50 applications accepted" - the additional materials must arrive in the HR Office before the recruitment closes.

5) What about conviction information and DMV printouts?
a. The City of Santa Cruz no longer requires conviction information or DMV printout at time of application, per State regulation AB 218 except for positions in the Police Department. Only candidates who have passed initial screening for minimum job qualifications will be notified to submit their conviction (and DMV printout if required).
***The original DMV printout must be emailed, sent or brought in to the HR Office within 5 working days of notification. For other details, see related webpage (City website/Human Resources/Employment Resources/Driving Record Printouts).

6) What about job interest cards? 
    a. Register a job interest form if you wish to be notified when a job that you are interested in opens. See related webpage (City website/Human Resources/Employment Resources/Job Interest Form).

7) What kind of notification can I expect? 
    a. You will be notified by email unless you specifically request to be notified by mail. All candidates will receive notification about their status once applications have been screened.

8) I'm having technical difficulties.
    a. Try a different browser. Read through the application guide. If you are still having problems, you can try calling the Governmentjobs.com tech support (877) 204-4442 or (310) 469-0515 if it is a weekday and before 6:00 p.m. PST.  The last solution is to email copies of your online application and all attachments directly to the HR Department HR@cityofsantacruz.com before the deadline date and time.
