• Exempts a residential service user from paying electricity users taxes and gas users taxes on the first $100 in combined monthly charges for electricity services and gas services.
• Eligibility – the individual must either a) reside alone and be 65 years of age or older; or b) share his or her residence with a spouse or registered domestic partner, and at least one of them be 65 years of age or older. The individual must reside at the location receiving the service; the exemption shall not apply to any nonresidential location.
• To request an exemption, a service user needs to file an application with the City. The City determines within 60 days whether the exemption is granted, and if so, notifies the service supplier. The Senior Citizen Exemption Application Form may be accessed through the link below. This form will be mailed to all City residential customers by January 2011 and will also be subsequently mailed out to these customers once a year.
