Plan for and start the implementation of the Ocean Street Improvements.

The Council has reviewed and accepted the plan for Ocean Street improvements for purposes of CEQA compliance. A Request for Proposal (RFP) based on the approved concept will be issued shortly.

Plan for and start the implementation of the Riverside Avenue Improvements.

The City Council approved the project concept for Riverside Avenue improvements. Public Works is currently working on the design of the streetscape and utility underground. Utility easements are also being developed.

Plan for and construct Highway 1 and 9 Improvements, as well as other Harvey West area traffic safety improvements (emergency exit); and continue process for Highway 1 bridge widening.

The City is currently conducting an environmental review for improvements to the Hwy 1/9 area. Caltrans has approved additional STIP funds. A Bridge Co-op agreement for PDS review is in progress.

Complete Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center.

The construction of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center is proceeding on time and on budget. A lighting ceremony was held on May 29 in which two pieces of public art were unveiled. The Center is expected to open its doors in July 2012.

Complete Wharf Master Plan and Wharf capital improvements.

Unfortunately, this project is on hold. Funding for wharf capital improvements was budgeted from RDA bond proceeds, the fate of which remains unclear in the wake of the dissolution of the county’s five redevelopment agencies.

Plan for and construct Riverfront and Lower Pacific Area improvements.

Unfortunately, this project is on hold. Funding for the Riverfront /Lower Pacific Area improvements was budgeted from RDA bond proceeds, the fate of which remains unclear in the wake of the dissolution of the county’s five redevelopment agencies. A study of parking on Lower Pacific Avenue is currently underway in order to ascertain parking needs for future economic growth in area.

Continue 2006 Measure H citywide street maintenance.

The City is currently conducting a design for arterial and residential projects.

Implement the priority project recommendations for citywide signage and way finding as identified in the Merge Way finding Analysis Report.

The preliminary study has been completed. A Request for Proposal (RFP) for a design of citywide signage/way finding has been issued and responses have been received. However, whether or not the City is able to award a contract is dependent on the County’s decision regarding the fate of RDA bond proceeds.

Help facilitate access to dark fiber and broad band infrastructure.

The City submitted multi-year, multi-million dollar grant proposal to fund a regional broad band infrastructure.
