Cowell Beach Dye Test

Stanford University and the City of Santa Cruz will be conducting a test to find out if the water in the storm drain pipe from Neary Lagoon travels through the sand to the surf zone of Cowell Beach. The storm drain outlet at Cowell Beach is buried in the sand in the summer.

Dye will be placed in the storm drain on Monday, May 13 and may show up in the beach water the next day or possibly not at all. The dye will not harm swimmers or surfers if they come into contact with it.

This study is part of the effort to reduce bacteria levels at Cowell Beach.

The web site http://www.stanford.edu/~aboehm/dye.html has more information about the study.
