SANTA CRUZ, CA -- The Sister Cities Committee is pleased to announce the arrival of an official delegation from the Crimean Peninsula, Ukraine on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. The five-person delegation is touring California in hopes of establishing a regional relationship with California. The Crimea, located on the Black Sea, shares many characteristics with California including miles of coastline, scenic mountains and a thriving wine industry.

Because Santa Cruz has enjoyed a 26-year sister city relationship with Alushta, Ukraine, the delegation looks forward to learning how the Santa Cruz-Alushta relationship has flourished in hopes of repeating the success in other communities.

The delegation includes Georgiy Psarov, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea; Sergiy Aloshyn, Consul General of Ukraine in San Francisco; Oleksiy  Starodubov, Advisor to the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea; Yanina Pavlenko, CEO of the state wine company "Noviy Svit"; and Oleksandr Filipenko, Vice Consul of the Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco.

The delegation will meet with Mayor Hilary Bryant and local wine industry representatives. The delegation will also visit the Sanctuary Exploration Center, Santa Cruz Wharf and UCSC. For more information on the delegation, call Enda Brennan, 831-429-9100.
