City Celebrates Westside Bicycle Pump Track Opening Saturday, November 23
New Bicycle Pump Track to Open in Santa Cruz
SANTA CRUZ, CA -- Join the City of Santa Cruz in celebrating the opening of the Westside Bicycle Pump Track on Saturday, November 23 at 3:00 pm at 100 Western Drive near Highway 1 on the westside of Santa Cruz. Ceremonies featuring Mayor Hilary Bryant, refreshments and a first ride will highlight the festivities.
The 5,000 square foot track is located behind the parking lot of the Westside Farmers Market on property donated by Ow Properties. This location, en route to Wilder Ranch, is an excellent spot to introduce families to the sport of off-road mountain biking. With its easy access and controlled environment, all levels of riders can experience the park’s unique features. There are two sections: the larger main track with its main line and extra side dish where riders can creatively pump in and out of the main track; and the small kiddy track suited for push bikes and young riders.
This pump track was built by over 40 volunteers, contributing more than 1,200 hours under the direction of City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation, Another Bike Shop and longtime pump track builder Kyle Jamieson. Using $25,000 in funding provided by the local bike industry, this track is designed to enhance public access to the sport of cycling.
Project sponsors include Santa Cruz Bikes, Easton-Bell, Fox, Shimano, Schroeder Concrete, REM Builders, Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (MBOSC) and many individuals who made significant donations. For more information, call 831-420-5270.
