Describe the Event: 

Santa Cruz City Firefighters, who were standing by in the area, were advised by witnesses that a boogie boarder was in distress and had gone into the “Toilet Bowl” next to Lighthouse Pt. The Battalion Chief at scene immediately had resources dispatched to the scene and had 3 rescue swimmers access the area from the cliff. There were 2 Santa Cruz Fire rescue watercraft that arrived at scene and they deployed 2 additional rescue swimmers.  The victim was rescued by swimmers and taken to Cowells Beach by rescue watercraft where advanced life support was initiated. The victim was transported by ambulance to Dominican Hospital and was later pronounced dead. Two rescue swimmers were treated for injuries and released.
