Santa Cruz, CA -- The Sister Cities Committee invites local students in the 8th-10th grade to apply to participate in the 10-day delegation set for the last week of March and first week in April 2014. Delegates will home stay with local families, sightsee in Shingu and environs, and learn about the culture and lifestyle of Japan.
The cost of the trip is approximately $2,200 including airfare, one night of hotel accommodation, bus transportation, insurance and incidentals. Delegates will be welcomed by Shingu officials, host families and citizens; and participate in official ceremonies as well as having time for fun activities and events. Spring delegation applications are due by Thursday, October 24, 2013. Priority consideration will be given to students who are residents of, or attend school in Santa Cruz.
With regard to the upcoming delegaton, Roxi Goin of Santa Cruz Sister Cities said, “This will be our fourteenth trip to Shingu with the 8-10th graders and we’ve been in a sister cities relationship with Shingu for almost 40 years. It is truly a life-changing experience for the delegates.”
