Describe the Event: 

Santa Cruz Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at a motel on 3rd St. Fire units arrived to find smoke coming from a downstairs room of the 2 story motel building. Fire crews entered the room, extinguished the fire, evacuated occupants of adjoining rooms and checked for fire extension to surrounding units. The motel room that the fire occurred in was unoccupied and had not been occupied for at least two weeks prior. There were no injuries sustained at the incident. The fire was investigated and found to be caused by combustible materials (mattress) too close to a wall heater. Damage was only in the affected motel room.
