Sister Cities Committee Seeks Host Families for Two High School Students from Alushta Ukraine
Starting August 2013 for School Year 2013-14

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- The Sister Cities Committee is seeking host families for two students from its sister city of Alushta, Ukraine for the 2013-2014 school year. The students -- a boy and a girl, will be 15 years old for the start of the school year.

The students would arrive in the U.S. several days before the opening of school in August and stay here for the full school term until early June, 2014. The role of the host family is to provide meals and bed which may be in a room shared with a male/female member who is no more than four years younger or older. Study space provided can be as simple as the dining room table. The host families should consider the students a part of the family showing them as much of our culture and way of life as possible. They will attend the high schools which are in the districts of the host families. All medical insurance and a small monthly stipend are provided by the sponsoring exchange program which will monitor their well-being and adjustment to life away from home.

The role of the students' schools is to provide classes in U.S. History, government and language. The schools will also submit the students' semester grades to the Exchange area representative who will oversee them to make sure they are adjusting and keeping their grades up.

The sponsor of the program is ASSE International Student Exchange, a public benefit organization founded in 1938 and officially designated by the U.S. Department of State as an “Exchange Visitor Program.”
