The Santa Cruz Municipal Utilities Office (SCMU) in the first line of contact for the Department and provides customer service for water, sewer, refuse and recycling services for residents and businesses within the City limits. Utility Service Representatives are available in person and by telephone 831-420-5220 to provide assistance that includes opening and closing utility accounts, answering service related questions, billing and account questions, handling disputes, leaks, rebates and customer education.

The City also provides water service to Live Oak, a portion of the City of Capitola, and limited water service along Highway 1 north of Santa Cruz. Please see Water Service Area Boundary Map.

Governance
The governing body for the Water Department is the City Council. The Director of the Water Department reports to the City Manager. A seven member Water Commission advises City Council on policy matters involving the operations and management of the water system.
