Taxicab Permits

The City of Santa Cruz regulates taxicab rates and taxicab operators that collect passengers within its city limits.  Per Santa Cruz Municipal Code Chapter 5.16, each taxicab must have a City-issued permit and be available for operation 24 hours per day.  A quota system is in place that controls the number of taxicabs that can operate in the city at one time.  As of October 2009, all of the City's taxicab permits were issued.  However, each permit expires after three years and becomes available to new or existing operators.  Interested operators can contact the City Manager's Office at 420-5010 to inquire about permits.
