SANTA CRUZ, CA -- Friends of Parks and Recreation (FOPAR) has awarded more than $15,000 in scholarships for Santa Cruz city residents to participate in upcoming summer programs. FOPAR is a 501 (c) 3 organization supporting City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation programs and services. Its scholarship program is its most beloved program -- enjoyed as much by the FOPAR board as by the scholarship recipients.
"The scholarship program is what FOPAR is all about, giving kids in need an opportunity to enjoy what Parks and Recreation has to offer," said Charlie Verutti, FOPAR Board President. In addition to the scholarship program, FOPAR also supports the Senior Computer Center, Jr. Guards, the Teen Center, Harvey West Pool and city parks. Donations are accepted at www.friendsofparksandrec.org and may be made to specific programs or to the FOPAR fund to support the organization as a whole.
FOPAR's scholarship program receives support from Omega Nu, the City of Santa Cruz, the J.R. Scott Jr. Lifeguard Scholarship Fund, the Jay Moriarity Foundation and the Santa Cruz Junior Lifeguard Booster Club. Scholarships are available year-round and more funding may become available for additional summer scholarships in the near future. Interested participants should visit www.cityofsantacruz.com/scholarships for updates on additional summer funding.
