Describe the Event:

At 7:19 AM Santa Cruz Fire responded to a report of a vehicle accident involving two vehicles on Highway 1. When units arrived they found a vehicle fully engulfed in fire and another vehicle on its roof. Crews immediately began to assess and treat patients on scene as well as extinguish the vehicle fire. Crews were able to prevent the spread of the fire to adjacent vegetation and limit the run off of hazardous liquids into the surrounding area. Two patients were transported from the scene with one requiring air ambulance transport to a trauma center. The vehicle that was on fire required extensive overhaul because of the type and amount of contents. Highway 1 Southbound was closed for approximately 20-30 minutes while emergency crews managed the incident. CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
