Explosion - 128 Walk Circle

Describe the Event:

At 1:24 PM Santa Cruz Fire responded to a report of an explosion at 128 Walk Circle. When units arrived they found a residential structure with light smoke coming from the building and the windows on the front of the building blown out. Crews turned the gas and electricity off and made entry into the building. They found no active fire but the results of a large explosion. Windows, doors, and walls had been damaged and signs of intense heat were found in the bathroom.


Crews determined that no occupants were in the building but they did remove one dog that had been burned as a result of the explosion. The occupant had left the scene prior to the arrival of Fire units. It was later determined that he had sustained significant burn injuries and was flown to a trauma center from Dominican Hospital. The cause of the explosion was determined to be a result of the use of butane while manufacturing hash oil. The specific sequence of events is under investigation by Santa Cruz Police.
