The City of Santa Cruz Public Safety Citizen Task Force will present their findings and recommendations to City Council during an evening study session on Tuesday, December 3rd. City Council created the task force, following a series of public meetings, to formally study the underlying public safety issues facing the City and present their solutions. The 14 member citizen group began their work in May 2013, meeting two to three times monthly. The group focused their study on drug addiction, gang activity, crime in public locations and the criminal justice system and was assisted in their effort by City staff and 30 expert panelists. In concluding their work in late November, the Task Force recommends a series of solutions pertaining to preventative programming, strategic police and code enforcement, recidivism reduction, criminal justice accountability and collaboration with partner agencies.
