Describe the Event: 

At 2:07 p.m., Santa Cruz Fire was dispatched to a report of a surfer who had hit his head on the rocks and was being assisted by other surfers who were helping him get out of the water. As crews arrived, they found a surfer that had been battered by the rocks and complained of hip and head pain. The surfer was up the rocks in ice plant about 20 feet down the cliff. Crews were able to get to the patient and start medical care. The victim had to be raised from the cliff utilizing the aerial ladder truck to lower a basket to him and bring the patient up to the walkway. AMR transported the male to Dominican Hospital with non-life threating injuries. Traffic was rerouted on West Cliff Drive for approximately 30 minutes.
