Fill out this form if you would like to request public information on permits and other planning and building documents.

If you are requesting building plan, drawings, structural calculations, or reports that are prepared by a licensed architect or engineer please fill out the downloadable Affidavit and return it to Nydia Patino, Records Coordinator, at npatino@cityofsantacruz.com or by mail to 809 Center Street, Room 107, Santa Cruz, CA 95060.

When research is expected to take longer than ten (10) days, you will be notified within ten (10) days of the date of your request.

 

Plans for building permits prepared by a licensed architect or engineer are copy righted material and require permission of the architect and/or engineer, as well as permission of the current property owner in order to be reproduced. Please refer to California Health and Safety Code Section 19851.

    Inspections:

     

    Several inspection services are provided including rental, code enforcement, and building and safety.

    Planning & Building Applications

     

    Depending on whether you are in the building or planning phase of your project, there are different application types. Checking in with Current Planning and the Building & Safety Division is the best place to start.

    Public Hearings/Meetings

    The Planning Commission, Historic Commission, and Zoning Administrator are part of the Planning & Community Development Department. Agenda and meeting information can be found  on the Advisory Bodies Page.

    Plans and Programs:

     

    Planning & Community Development is responsible for maintaining and implementing several plans and programs like the General Plan, Local Coastal Program, and Downtown Plan. Check in with Advance Planning to learn more and stay up-to-date. 

     Register Your Rental Property
     Property registration is required for long-term rentals either through the Residential Rental Inspection Program.
