SANTA CRUZ — The community is invited to celebrate the environment at Earth Day Santa Cruz 2018 on Saturday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at San Lorenzo Park. Sponsored and organized by the City of Santa Cruz, County of Santa Cruz and Ecology Action, this free annual event includes dozens of educational and green retail booths, fun-filled youth activities, live music, food, a beer garden and much more.

New this year, City of Santa Cruz tables will include two Street Smarts traffic safety ambassadors: Santa Cruz Warriors mascot Mav’Riks will be teaching bike turn signals to youth and Chipper, the California Highway Patrol chipmunk, will be leading kids and adults in distracted driving pledges. There will be Street Smarts reflective wristbands for the first 300 participants and California Highway Patrol stickers for all.

Also new to the festival, graduates of the first-ever City of Santa Cruz Master Recycler program will assist visitors with recycling activities and questions. The acclaimed artist Christopher Allen will lead a community art project with upcycling ocean theme.

Annual favorite activities include a free rock climbing wall, interactive environmental passport, tumbling, arts and crafts, and face painting. There will be music by SambaDá and Mother Song, the annual Teen Recycled Art Fashion Show and Electric Vehicle Showcase with e-bike test rides.

Earth Day Santa Cruz 2018 is a Zero Waste event; it is recommended that visitors bring reusable shopping bags and water bottles. Free drinking water is provided by Pure Water of Santa Cruz.
